Art and Collectibles News: The Vered Gallery in East Hampton, New York, has taken an Andy Warhol portrait of Michael Jackson off the auction block. The 30-by-26-inch portrait was originally slated to sell via a silent auction by July 12. The art gallery's auction has been extended to August 18 due to all the inquiries received from prospective buyers for the painting.

The portrait is expected to sell for as much as $10 million. The Telegraph reported that this is the same painting that sold in May 2008 for $278,000 with no reserve price. The starting price on bidding for the painting this time is $800,000.

There are five differently colored portraits by Andy Warhol of Michael Jackson that were commissioned by Time magazine in 1984. Each painting features Jackson wearing his famous red military tunic from the Thriller album cover. Another of the five Jackson portraits by Warhol went unsold at an auction held by Sothebys during the summer 2008. The portrait with the yellow background, which appeared on the cover of Time magazine, is in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC.

These days all things related to the deceased King of Pop are selling quite well. From record sales to collectibles to artwork, the Los Angeles Times reported sales of more than 9 million albums since Jackson's death and anticipate that number to increase significantly.

Kanye West Shares Street Style With Louis Vuitton

Keywords: Fashion and Design | Style and Sartorial Elegance

By RACHEL TAN

Louis Vuitton takes their street style up a notch with help from multi award-winning musician Kanye West. Released just recently, the sneaker collaboration brings together the gritty urbanite flair of West and the skilled craftsmanship of the French fashion connoisseurs.

As a fashion maven and sneaker aficionado himself, West had previously honed his design chops at Nike. This time round, he brings his considerable experience to Louis Vuitton, designing sneakers dressy enough for a night out, yet retaining a distinct urban edge.

Made from suede, calfskin or a patchwork of leathers, the collection will boast three primary designs- Don’s, Jaspers and Mr. Hudson- which share signature details such as a high padded heel flap and a Monogram flower-embossed outsole.

Other eclectic embellishments include suede tassels on Jaspers and a ramrod straight tongue on Don’s.

"HOT GEAR"

As the collaboration between adidas and Porsche Design enters its sixth season, the same winning formula of engineered luxury, top quality performance and outstanding design looks set to strike again with the upcoming Porsche Design Sport Fall/Winter 2009 Collection.

A INTERESTING ARTICLE I FOUND!!!CHECK IT OUT!!!

Digital may be growing but the CD is far from dead

10:01 | Thursday July 16, 2009

By Eamonn Forde

Despite the boom in digital, CD remains the format of choice for most UK consumers according to new research from The Leading Question/Music Ally.

The study also found that the users of digital access models actually buy more CDs and downloads than the average consumer.

The annual Speakerbox survey found that, overall, 73% of music buyers prefer CDs. Even among younger consumers, that many had presumed were digital-only, the numbers were still in favour of physical formats. A total of 66% of 14-18-year-olds said they still prefer CDs over downloading.

Interestingly, physical is still the main format for piracy. While 17% of those surveyed said they fileshared tracks, a total of 23% said they burned CD-Rs.

The Leading Question CEO Tim Walker says, “The continued popularity of the CD should be looked upon as an opportunity. We believe that labels and online stores could and should be doing more to build on music fans’ familiarity with CDs to provide them with additional digital content and to use the CD as a bridge into the digital world.”

Perhaps the most surprising finding was that users of subscription music services and streaming music services still buy a significant amount of physical product.

Those who use services like Napster spend an average of £16.87 a month on CDs compared to an overall average of £11.37 a month. Those who use streaming services like Spotify spend £12.17 a month on CDs and £7.02 on downloads. This is against a survey average of £3.81 a month on downloads.

This, the survey claims, is proof that digital access models are not a substitution for most consumers and are, in fact, a gateway into ownership, be it MP3s or CDs.

Digital made up 20% of recorded music sales globally in 2008 according to IFPI figures, growing from 15% a year earlier.

GOOD IDEA BUT A LI L TOO LATE!!!UNLESS ITS 7 ZEROES INVOLVED!

A GOOD ARTICLE I READ THOUGHT U MIGHT LIKE!!!

By Chuck "Jigsaw" Creekmur
It is pretty common knowledge that it is high time that the recording industry re-evaluate its practices and business M.O.

This is a direct result of the digital era, however I have an archaic response to the resurgence of the new indie and internet movement.

Record labels need to make the record deal worth something again.

Right now, with all eyes on the artist, the artistry, the sales and the business, the labels are going to need to raise the bar instead of lowering it. In recent history, record deals have been given out like cheap candy on Halloween night. The dude co-signed by the DJ gets a deal. The bum best friend of the multi-platinum rapper gets a deal. The trash rapper that does a few thousand out-of-the-trunk can get a record deal. There's a clearance sale on record deals, it seems and the industry "got it for cheap."

These unqualified people are getting signed for all the wrong reasons and very little of it is based on talent or ability. Can we agree that that is most important aspect of an album? I mean, most of these folks don't even have an interesting story to sell to the people or media. I'm sorry, but even getting shot isn't enough anymore. The "deal" has been devalued so badly that your average artist boasts about being indie, not even fully grasping he gravity of that. (That's another topic, but indie is short for independent.) The point is, nobody really cares about getting signed to a deal anymore...they have options.

Don't confuse this as an anti-indie statement or even a pro-major labels commentary. I firmly believe that we only recently fundamentally got off track, but it seems like Pandora's Box is completely broken open. Artists as recently as 50 Cent, Young Jeezy and wise older artists like Master P grasped the notion of crafting a full-circle look at their art way before they hopped in bed with the labels. Then, other artists already signed to majors took meticulous care of their likeness and their art, which often extended well beyond their music. That care doesn't exist anymore, from the artist or the labels. Artist development, A&Ring and other once-essentials are now fundamentally dead.

That can change for the betterment of the business and the future stars of music, if the deal is harder to attain. Getting signed must be a rite of passage of sorts, where only the best of the best emerge victorious.

With the barriers to entry gone, and access readily available, I'm not suggesting that the music game shut down the doors to anybody. In fact, this idea would open up doors to the talents all over the nation and the world that have the goods, but don't have the inroads. There are more ways for an artist to create energy around themselves and you don't have to sit in front of the Def Jam building to get somebody's attention. So, I'm talking about the artists in Detroit, Delaware, Baltimore and Chicago getting in. I'm talking about the MC's in Rotterdam and South Africa. The labels have to understand, this is what is out there. The artists have to be ready to answer the door when opportunity knocks.

Essentially, what I am suggesting is that - for the fans' sake - artists must assume control of their own destiny and when they have gone through that industry trial by fire, everybody is a winner.

If the deal is just given out, even the "nobody" doesn't respect it. The goal: creating the next generation of superstars and salvaging a business that enables potential greats to fulfill their destiny.

Solutions:

Artists: Labels will be labels. Create value in what you do and what you are. Have a total package as an artist and, more importantly, as a commodity. Know the digital landscape in detail, but don't completely abandon traditional forms of promotion and marketing that work. Have a team.

Labels: We've seen what happens when artists are JUST signed. Nobody wins, because many of these immensely talented individuals sit on a shelf, only to get released years after their buzz is the highest. Others do get release dates, but suffer from wackness or simply from neglect. From a business point of view, there will always be an urge to sign the next hot thing on the spot, but treat the artist like a flower and help them blossom. There aren't many Michael's, Mariah's and Madonna's out there, but there are many reoccurring lessons to be learned from these artists.

Health & Beauty: There are some things money can't buy, but Dior Beauty is bringing us one step closer to removing a youthful, wrinkle-free visage from that list with its new L'Or de Vie (Gold of Life) anti-aging skincare system.

Launched in December 2006, L'Or de Vie is derived from the vines of the venerable Chateau d'Yquem. Château d'Yquem's Premier Cru Supérieur dessert wines are wold-renowned for their exceptional longevity ; in 2006 a 135-year "vertical" (containing every vintage from 1860 to 2003) was sold at auction in London for $1.5 million.

Dior has extracted a unique composition of 10 antioxidant and regenerating molecules contained in the sap of the shoots of the Yquem vines. The L'Or de Vie collection comprises three separate items : L'Extrait, La Crème and La Crème Yeux (Extract, Cream and Eye Cream).

L'Extrait - 15mL ($370)
The Extract is the lightest formulation in the collection. The sheer, lightweight gel moisturizer is perfect for day wear under makeup. A small amount goes a very long way; two pumps of the dispenser (smaller than a dime in the palm) is generally sufficient to cover both the face and the neck. Never forget the importance of applying anti-aging products to the neck and décolletage! Too few women realize that these areas generally receive as much sun exposure as the face and can exhibit similar signs of aging. Nothing worse than a serenely smooth brow with a crepey, wrinkly neck! The scent is quite subtle, and skin immediately feels softer and takes on a "plumper," healthier radiance. If you can only afford one product in the L'Or de Vie collection, L'Extrait is worth every penny. One bottle lasts approximately 3 months.

La Crème Yeux - 15mL ($195)
Unlike many other eye cream formulations, L'Or De Vie has managed to come up with a richly moisturizing formula that isn't oily or sticky. Undereye circles, puffiness and dryness are noticeably reduced within the first week of use. Excellent for amerliorating that haggard, sleep deprived look that tends to entrench itself over time.

La Crème - 15mL ($350)
La Crème provides powerful day moisturization for dry skin, and can be used overnight by all skin types. The cream absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue, so no need to fear for your linens! As with the other L'Or de Vie products, the cream's scent is very light and pleasant, and it quickly fades from notice.

Travel Set ($215)
The collection is also available for purchase in a TSA carry-on friendly travel set which includes all three products.

DAILY THOUGHT!!!

MY BIOGRAPHY!

KNOXX These letters describe a man with a true passion for his music. Born in Baltimore, MD, this MCs star is definitely shining bright. At a young age, Knoxx began his quest for success with his first recording entitled The Shop which gained him underground acclaim, and recognition overseas as well. This ode to the hood barbershop bells and kicked off a musical journey which would eventually lead Knoxx across the nation The Shop allowed Knoxx to perform with the likes of LL Cool J, Ice Cube, Common and Mobb Deep and went on to sell 30,000 units independently by the time all was said and done. Knoxx then moved on to Atlanta where he released an EP entitled Carpe Diem which was hailed by the local press as A Solid Hip Hop Album. For a newcomer to the city, those words are high praise from a local press that coveted their own artists as much as Atlanta did at that time. Knoxx also formed a crew called The Ark which also gained notoriety not only in Atlanta, but from major publications outside of the ATL as well. Knoxx then entered the Blaze Magazine Freestyle Battle, and proceeded to receive the loudest crown response in the event, allowing the streets to let it be known he was the winner, hands down. Subsequently, he graced the cover of Elemental Magazine, which praised him for the energy and intensity of his live performances. While Atlanta was still recovering from his impact, Knoxx then moved his career to Los Angeles. I knew success was out there for me he said. He hit the ground running, moving freestyle mix tapes throughout the city to make the name Knoxx known in the West. One of these mix tapes came across the desk of Grammy winning rapper, Young MC, who promptly took Knoxx into the studio to record cutting edge tracks with the goal of creating classic hip hop. The collaboration proved to be an education for both men to say the least. Knoxxs newest release combines street stories, heartfelt testimonials, and infectious hooks with a lyricism that will take classic hip hop fans back while propelling current hip hop fans forward. Give him 16 bars, hell give you the world. Buckle ya seat, put the kids to sleep, cause Knoxx is on your boxTURN IT UP!

VOUGE DOC..LOOKS INTERESTING!!!News & Trends: Each year, fashionistas around the world look forward to the September Issue of Vogue Magazine. But this year there is more to look forward to than just the printing of the fashion bible; there is September Issue, a documentary detailing the mysterious, behind-the-scenes, goings on at Vogue.

Each August, when the September Issue is unleashed for the public, record-breaking numbers scramble to buy it and know first what is coming for the next year. To date, the September Issue of 2007 was the best selling ever, weighing over 4 pounds and thirteen million copies.

Anna Wintour, the legendary editor in chief of Vogue magazine for over 20 years, has become a celebrity in her own right, as she determines the fashions for the seasons, advising top designers on what to send down the runway. Until September Issue, the bob-coiffed sunglass-wearing fashion guru has remained a mystery, but for filmmaker R.J. Cutler's new film, she has allowed cameras into her inner sanctuary.

R.J. Cutler's new film takes viewers inside the world of fashion as Anna and her team scramble to create the year's most coveted magazine. Just as Cutler exposed politics in his prior film, The War Room, September Issue takes viewers inside the world of fashion and the turmoil that ensues as each piece is handpicked for the issue.

Alongside Wintour is incomparable Creative Director Grace Coddington. The film lends insight into their decades-old conflict between creator and curator. The two battle it out to stay at the top of the ever-changing industry.

Also making appearances in the film are their teams of creative types and assistants, as well as glimpses of the inner workings of the entire fashion world, from Fashion Week, Europe, fashion shoots, and staff meetings.

September Issue will be released in the US' fashion capital, New York City, on August 28th and be available nationally September 11th.
